![]() ![]() Whether it is decapitating characters to put their heads on spikes, granting merciful second chances in the heat of combat, or simply watching your opponent explode into chunks when they rage-quit, Mortal Kombat 11 has no shortage of secrets and Easter eggs that will keep loyal Kombatants entertained long beyond what is expected of a standard fighting game. This is thanks in no small part to its labyrinthine Krypt mode and the crossover it has with every other mode in the game. ![]() Mortal Kombat 11 is a surprisingly deep game (just compare it to the Mortal Kombat Series' current timeline for context). Chests will usually treat players to new gear and taunts for the decapitated character. Returning to the Krypt and placing these heads on their respective character's spikes will unlock the chest for that shrine, as well as other doors in the Krypt. By performing 25 fatalities on a specific character in the Towers of Time and Klassic Towers, players will be rewarded with the severed head of that character as an item. In order to activate it, players must once again venture into Mortal Kombat's Tower modes. There is no instruction on how to use this shrine, no hint to its purpose. This shrine consists of spikes in front of pictures of the different Mortal Kombat 11 characters. While exploring the Krypt, players may come across the Warrior's Shrine in the courtyard. This is a way to show sportsmanship in Mortal Kombat 11, as well as get an extra finisher bonus to pump up a tower score with some of Mortal Kombat's most violent finishing moves. ![]() After a small taunt by the previously victorious character, the match resumes. By holding the left trigger, pressing down three times, and releasing the left trigger, the arena will fill with light as a small portion of the defeated enemy's health returns. For those wishing to continue the fight, or give an opponent a sporting chance at a comeback, there is another finisher, the Mercy. They are rewarded by watching their character finish off opponents in brutal, bloody, gruesome ways before striking a final victory pose that is often showered in gore. At the end of the match, skilled players can enter a complex sequence of commands to execute a fatality. When a series has rebooted itself as many times as Mortal Kombat has, anything is possible.Mortal Kombat 11 (and the wider Mortal Kombat series as a whole) is synonymous with its fatalities (like Liu Kang's, who is better as a bad guy in Mortal Kombat 11). Players who grew attached to the Descendant of Apep, and were hoping to see him become a real, playable fighter, are likely disappointed, but according to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath's good ending it's likely that Apep himself could make a return in the future. However, the Mortal Kombat series has always reveled in dark humor and shocking violence, so it's no surprise they would simply kill off one of their most mysterious new characters so unceremoniously. It's a grim irony that Apep's descendant would lose his life in a Shaolin Trap Dungeon, since Apep, Shujinko, and their teacher Bo' Rai Cho were the ones who helped grow the Shaolin to their current prominence many, many years previous. In the past games, Krypt loot was designated to the box. Apparently, no matter how ingenious players were at avoiding the monsters and traps in Mortal Kombat 11's Krypt, the Descendant of Apep was always destined to die. Where people are angry here in MK11 is Krypt is completely random now. The game shows no reverence for the fighter, displaying him impaled from multiple angles, and even gives players a gratuitous shot of his mask falling off his bloodied, slack-jawed chin. Mortal Kombat 11's Descendant of Apep clearly escaped Shang Tsung's island at some point, but it doesn't look like he made it very far. Shang Tsung grabs a stick and pokes at a raised stone on the floor, and suddenly spikes extend from the walls and reveal to the player the exact fate of Mortal Kombat 11's Krypt explorer. The Mortal Kombat 11 Krypt is essentially an enormous dungeon filled with treasure, and you’ve been invited to collect as much of it as you can afford. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath adds a few extra hours of much-needed conclusion to the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, and during a moment when Shang Tsung and Nightwolf are infiltrating a Shaolin Temple the scorcer places his hand on Nightwolf's chest and stops him from advancing. Related: MK11 Aftermath Confirms The Worst Mortal Kombat Game Is Still Canon While Apep was never seen again, the RPG elements introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deception's Konquest Mode would go on to influence a number of the series' following titles. Apep was the childhood friend of that game's main character, Shujinko, and guided players through the tutorial missions which gave them an introduction to MK: Deception's Konquest mode mechanics. Apep is a minor character in the Mortal Kombat universe and has only appeared on screen once, during the Konquest mode of Mortal Kombat: Deception. ![]()
